How could we define a kitchen in our homes these days? Traditionally a kitchen should have been very functional space for cooking or serving, and even nowadays the essential aim is still same. However nowadays it is becoming more and more important than the old days. Not just for functions we are enjoying the space by cooking and sharing their experiences together. That is a kitchen becomes one of the cultural core spaces in our home, therefore we are spending much longer time there. For that as a designer what could we reconsider about the gadgets/tools for the space?
One of the ruling principal in design was “Form Follows Functions.” Even though that is still valid and also powerful, but I think we need something more emotional/aesthetical for better quality of our life. A kitchen is the space where we can see the direct connection with the nature. We are preparing and cooking with natural material and ingredients there. So I would say the space is kind of the contacting point between nature and us. However it is hard to recognize the fact in everyday life. Basically human beings are not able to live without nature. A handful of wheat is same with a piece of bread.
Thanks to the shape and functional design VACO shows us the fact in a symbolic way. The upper part is a vase which we can contain flowers, raw vegetables or grains, and below part is a container for bread, cakes or other food which are produced with it. This connectivity makes us remind where the foods coming are and appreciate of the beauty of our mother nature. In our kitchen VACO is not just as a functional/aesthetical container, but also gives us messages from the origins in our everyday life.
